When I was a student in the MFA program at Florida International University, one of my professors, Julie Marie Wade, spoke of “heart lines.” We’d underline these heart lines in poems, essays, and books. These were sentences or phrases that spoke to us on a deep level. These heart lines often did a great deal of work in a piece of writing, helping the reader to connect with an underlying universal message. This is how I see legacy projects.
A legacy project is a heart line in your life, an expression of your innermost self. It can be anything you want. A legacy or heart project could be as simple as a letter to your loved ones, or as layered as a full-length memoir.
I have an MFA in Creative Writing and over 15 years of experience as an editorial consultant and writing coach. I also have experience working with clients on memoirs intended solely for their children and grandchildren. Together we shaped the manuscripts and published them in book-form for these families.
